For the Betterment of Your Pet and the Community

Pet spay and neuter cuts the chances of your companion developing malignant tumors and some types of cancer to almost nil. Roaming behavior can be prevented if spay or neuter is done early enough. Perhaps most importantly though, are the benefits the overall pet community receives when you get your furry friend “fixed.” Millions of pets flood U.S. shelters every year and a large portion are never returned to their owners. When you practice responsible ownership by getting your companion spayed or neutered, you won’t be contributing to animal homelessness. Unfixed pets can have multiple litters during a lifetime, which can be close to impossible to care for!

Some of the perks female pets receive with being spayed include:

  • They are less likely to suffer from ovarian and uterine cancer.
  • They are less likely to develop mammary gland tumors.
  • Felines are free from frequent heat cycles, which occur every three to four weeks during breeding season.
  • The amount of unwanted litters decreases.

Some of the benefits male pets receive with being neutered include:

  • The likelihood they develop testicular cancer is eliminated.
  • Aggressive behavior may be lessened.
  • Urine spraying and marking is reduced or gone altogether.
  • The chances for prostate disease is eliminated.

What to Expect from Us

Ideally, we ask that you try to get a new puppy or kitten spayed or neutered during their first few months of life. Some of your pet’s natural instincts like urine spraying can be curtailed if spay or neuter is done early enough. Since we are an accredited AAHA hospital and are held to high veterinarian standards, your pet’s vitals and comfort will be watched closely throughout the entire procedure. After you bring your pet home the same day as surgery, we ask that you watch them closely too. They should have a quiet place to rest for at least a day. Don’t hesitate to call us at (662) 234-4336 if you notice things like redness or swelling at their incision site. We’re committed to the pets of Oxford and adjacent communities!
